The Fallschirmjaeger Monument at Hill 107 at Chania, Crete, looking toward Maleme Airfield in the old days.

Erected as a lasting tribute to the German Paratroopers who fell during the battle for Crete, by the Germans in WWII

After WWII it became a pilgrimage staple for German Paratroopers, who fought on Crete. Many Germans returned to the Greek Islands, post war.

Then and Now - Ghosts of History

Hidden off the main road, the monument still can be found at Chania. You have a look for it though.

The FJ Eagle on top has been long gone. Paint has damaged the monumental plaque. A piece has been broken of. Modern sentiments.

Built in a vast empty plot at Hill 107, the Eagle was on top of the monument until at least 1991.

The view today... is that of a lot on a backroad in a communal neighborhood. Chania has closed in.
